"A lively, fresh, pure, fragrant and enticing bouquet with aromas and flavours of red currant, red berries, plum and fine earthy complexities. Dark red apple and black cherry, vanilla and toasty wood layers, clove and baking spices, plum and boysenberry flavours. Firm-ish chalky tannins and medium+ acidity, a fine layer of wood brings tension, spice and tannins throughout the palate. Balanced and well made, ready to drink from purchase and through 2025+" Cameron Douglas, Master of Wine, Jun 2021

"Full-flavoured Pinot Noir with black fruits, blackberry, wood-smoke, liquorice and spicy oak flavours. A full-blooded Pinot Noir that makes up in intensity and richness." Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Mar 2021

This Pinot Noir expresses black fruits like boysenberries and blueberries with subtle floral notes and gentle acidity. The cocoa powder tannins and smoky toasty notes add complexity with a generous earthy textural finish.

The winemakers key focus is to be environmentally responsible and to operate using sustainable practices in order to protect the land for future generations. Villa Maria has farmed Pinot Noir organically since 2010 gaining Biogro certification in 2012. This selection of vineyards are vibrant gardens alive with wildflowers and full of life.

During the 2019 growing season, fruit set in the cool Spring weather was lower than usual, resulting in the development of open bunches with small flavourful berries. From January onwards, Marlborough experienced a Summer of the century, with a spell of long hot dry weather with moderately cool nights providing the perfect environment to ensure physiological and flavour ripeness whilst retaining freshness.

Food Pairing: Matches well with New Zealand lamb.

Alc. 13%
