"Starward Peated Finish is a distinctive Australian single malt that brings together Melbourne's fruit-forward whisky style with the smoky character of traditional Islay whisky. Initially matured in Australian red wine barrels, the whisky is then finished in peated whisky barrels sourced from Islay, Scotland, creating a distinctive balance between vibrant fruit and coastal smoke.
The extended 18-month finish in heavily peated casks gives the whisky a deeper smoky character while allowing Starward's signature tropical fruit profile to remain prominent. Bottled at 48% ABV, it offers plenty of flavour and intensity without becoming dominated by peat.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Bright tropical fruits and toasted oak lead into a gentle hint of sweet peat smoke.
Palate:
Ripe red fruits, yellow peach and tropical fruit combine with subtle coastal peat smoke and rich mocha. The higher bottling strength adds weight and intensity while keeping the fruit character lively.
Finish:
Long and smoky, with toasted oak gradually drying the palate before a lingering layer of sweet, earthy peat remains."
