"Uncover the “Secret Speyside” mystery with the Speyside (M) 2009 Aged 16 Years (Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition #15). This 700ml single malt is widely rumoured among enthusiasts to originate from the iconic Macallan distillery (hence the “M” designation). Distilled in 2009 and bottled in early 2026, it has been fully matured for 16 years in a combination of First Fill and Second Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts. As part of the acclaimed 100 Proof Collection, it is bottled at exactly 57.1% ABV (the traditional British 100 proof). This strength is designed to sit in the “sweet spot” between standard bottlings and full cask strength, offering maximum intensity without the need for significant dilution. It remains non-chill filtered and natural in colour, showcasing a deep, burnished copper hue.
Nose: Classic, heavy, and sophisticated. You are greeted by a concentrated wave of dark chocolate and espresso beans, followed by a lush layer of dried dates and spiced plums. As it opens, the Oloroso influence reveals elegant notes of polished antique oak, roasted walnuts, and a hint of orange oil.
Palate: The arrival is rich, oily, and “chewy.” It delivers a primary burst of Christmas cake and molasses sweetness, which quickly evolves into a mid-palate of blackberries, ginger, and clove spices. The high proof provides a robust structural backbone, layering dark honey and leather over a dense, malty core that stays true to its Speyside heritage.
Finish: Very long, warm, and drying. The finish lingers with a final flourish of dark cacao and autumnal fruits, finally tapering off with a clean trail of tobacco leaf and a sophisticated, woody dryness."
