Not what it used to be

Ten years ago, Old Pulteney 21 and 17 were my top 2 favourite whiskies. Even 5 years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed comparing an Old Pulteney 17 with and 18 in a small pub in the north of Scotland where wife’s gtandfather grew up 110 years ago. Unfortunately I have never found an Old Pulteney since then that I have enjoyed as much. I had hoped this 16 might be it. Unfortunately, it was a big fail - chill filterred and artificially coloured. It was the darkest whisky I have every tasted. I am a distiller myself and believe this colour is impossible to replicate naturally. All the raw and interesting flavours from the barley were stripped out. Even though the taste was quite pleasant, it had nothing natural left - which is what you buy single malts to get ; it was too productionised. This imasculated whisky had nothing interesting left after all the processing. I might finally have to close the door on my nostalgic Old Pulteney hopes.

In short - drinkable but boring
