Commercial description

TASTING NOTE Bouquet: A ripe, citrus driven Chardonnay. Characteristic biscuit and oatmeal secondary characters and mild flinty notes contrast and compliment the fruit. Palate: Our hallmark fresh, vibrant acidity offered by the Mendoza clone offers vitality and vibrancy. A modest amount of new oak delivering subtle char and phenolic structure to the wine. An intensely flavoured yet youthful and lively vintage for Dog Point Chardonnay. Food match: Scallops, white fish and BBQ Pork.

Cellaring: Five to seven years.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Growing Region Marlborough home vineyards

pH3.27

Acidity7.1 g/l

Maturation 18 months in older French Oak barrels (15% new)

CHARDONNAY 2/3 Mendoza, 1/3 B95 clones hand-picked from our home vineyard at 5 tonnes/ha (30hl/ha), from vines dating back to 1981. Fruit is whole bunch pressed and transferred directly to French oak barrels (15% new) and left to undergo indigenous primary and secondary malolactic fermentations for 18 months in barrel. Bottled without fining and with only minimal filtration. REVIEWS 93 Points - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate The Chardonnay is a smoky, toasty, medium to full-bodied effort marked by a terrific acid line. That grapefruit note provides the backbone over which riper notions of white peach, toasted hazelnut and pineapple rest. Zesty and refreshing, with a long, mouthwatering finish, this is a compelling example of Marlborough Chardonnay.

Our Favourite Chardonnay

Wonderful complexities with toasted oak on the nose. We've struggled to replace this as our favourite Chardonnay and also recommend section 94 from Dog Point if you prefer oak forward but sophisticated structure, albeit this one is a Sav varietal. We've puchashed a number of cases of DP Chard off Whisky and More for our wedding and will probably need to top up supplies as we keep dipping in! Best prices and service in the market, hands down!
