Although there is no distillery at Finlaggan Castle, this ancient home of the "Lords of the Isles" lends its name to one of the islands finest malt whiskies. Finlaggan "Original" is a peaty distillation from one of Islay's finest distilleries. Rich in the aromas of the peat smoke which dried the barley and of the Scottish sea shore where it matured. Dry, smoky with plenty of barley and peat. It has a sherry sweetness and burnt oaky tannins. Excellent balance with a long and rich finish. Independent Bottler of The Year - 2008

I like the peaty islay whiskeys, this is one of them.

Its Ok

Certainly drinkable, but nothing remarkable. but its priced accordingly.
If it came on special for $50 or under I would buy again.

Well-priced Islay Peated Whisky

I'm pretty sure this is sourced from Ardbeg. It is proofed down to 40% alcohol whereas Ardbeg 10 and Wee Beastie are around 46-47%. However, when I compared this to the Ardbegs with a bit of water added to lower the proof, the taste was very close. In any case this is a really good buy if you like Islay peated whisky. I also tried the Finlaggan Old Reserve which is almost as good but for me this one has a slight edge with a little bit more oak spiciness.

Peat at a price

I am absolutely convinced that this whisky is in fact Ardbeg, with some colour added, to throw us all off the trail.
Deliciously smokey and peaty.

Some say it is a young Lagavulin. I think that is wishful thinking, lacking any of the richness and amazing mouth feel of that wonderful whisky.

At less than half the price of Lagavulin, and about 20+ dollars cheaper than Ardbeg, do yourself a favour and buy this whisky!!
