Commercial Description:

Pronounced 'Bu-na-ha-venn', this welcoming dram is fondly known for its wonderfully gentle taste making it quite distinct from other Islay whiskies. Our 12 Year Old has set the tone and the benchmark for the rest of the range - only the best will do. Double Matured in Ex Bourbon and Ex Sherry Casks, this whisky is beautifully rich and full-bodied, achieving the perfect balance of the characteristic nutty and sherry flavours of Bunnahabhain.

Nose: Fresh and aromatic, fruity floral with hints of dried fruit.
Palate: Light with fruit notes, nutty flavours with a sweetness and slight hints of vanilla and caramel.
Finish: Long and lingering, rich, full-bodied and a hint of sea salt.

Bunnahabhain 12 yr

Since visiting the Bunnahabain Distillery some years ago and having a wonderful time there I have thought this must be one of my favourites. Just enough peat and a hint of the sea. Perfect

Not enough!

Disappeared like snow off dyke!

So good I went there

My son bought me a splendid Bunnahabhain and it is right up there among my favourites (think Tallisker, Ardbeg and Bowmore). A couple of years later, my wife and I spent a fortnight travelling from Arran to Skye and we took the tour of this distillery when we were in Islay.

A pleasant surprise

I have been sipping whisky, mostly blends since 1971. Up until now, JW Green @ 43% is the strongest - and best - I've tasted. I saw an internet review of the Bunny 12 year by a gent on the I.O.M. and on a whim, followed his recommendation. At 46.3%, I was expecting stronger tongue burn that I always get at the first sip of other whiskies, but there was little or none worth telling. If Tomintoul is called the gentle dram, then this must be at least as gentle. I won't even try to find fancy words for the slightly woody taste/smell of the nicest, all too easy to drink whisky I've ever lined my shelf with.
