"Ardbeg Anthology The Beithir’s Tale is the pinnacle edition of the experimental Anthology series from the Ardbeg distillery. This 15-year-old version called “The Ultimate” represents a unique approach - single malt whisky matures exclusively in so-called designer bourbon casks, which have been shaped to enhance creamy, vanilla, and sweet notes while preserving the distinctive peaty and smoky essence characteristic of Ardbeg.
In production, these casks are specially prepared: instead of classic drying in a kiln, casks that are air-seasoned are used, then intensely roasted and lightly charred. This process gives the casks a greater ability to impart sweeter and creamier tones to the distillate without mutating the core smoky-peaty “DNA” of Ardbeg.
On the nose, Ardbeg opens up significantly - it is oily, spicy, with notes of molasses, creosote, and smoked herbs. Gradually, burnt apples, dried raisins, creamy tones, menthol and eucalyptus, pine needles and fennel emerge.
On the palate, the whisky is impressively balanced — initially a bright, sparkling body that transitions into peat smoke, roasted coffee, and currants, while sweet lime and balsam create a contrast to the smoky notes. The finish is long and slow, with hints of vanilla, smoked butter, spices, and a charred smoky trail."
