Something very special from everybody?s favourite vacation spirit. This is only the second Collector?s Edition of Metaxa?s Grande Fine to be released and it?s available exclusively through Harvey Nichols.
Grande Fine is a celebration of Greece. This silky-smooth and extra-mature spirit is a blend of eaux-de-vie that has been aged for between eight and fifteen years, and aromatic Muscat wines from the terraced vineyards on the island of Samos (the birthplace of Pythagoras and home to flamingos, jackals, seals and some of the most underestimated wines on the planet). These are married together in oak before being bottled. It was crafted by Constantinos Raptis, who is only the fifth Metaxa Master since the creation of the house by Spyros Metaxa in 1888.
This precious spirit has been filled into a unique porcelain decanter designed by the Athenian street artist Cacao Rocks. Inspired by his grandfather?s journeys throughout the Cyclades (a group of islands in the Aegean Sea), the windmills of Mykonos and other Greek architecture, landscapes, symbols and folklore, Cacao Rocks created a bottle that sings of bright, white Grecian buildings bathed in golden sun and lapped by the bluest of seas.
Rarely seen outside of Travel Retail, where it is the number one selling brandy, Metaxa Grande Fine is one for the connoisseurs. This dark amber nectar presents notes of prune, golden raisin, white currant, liquorice, honey-laced baklava, liquorice, dried fruit, zesty mixed peel, nutmeg, vanilla, cigar, pine resin and old oak. Lap up this little piece of heaven neat. While doing so, it?s impossible not to imagine the warm sun on your face and the sand between your toes.
