Appleton Estate 21YO Rum 700ml

Tropical ageing accelerates maturation dramatically. At 21 years old, this rum carries an oak intensity more akin to a 40–50-year-old Scotch. For me, it is a splendid rum. However, for those who don’t enjoy heavy oak intensity, nutty character, roasted coffee beans, burnt caramel, or deep molasses notes, this may not be for you. I find younger rums, like the 15, are much closer to what the average rum enjoyer would expect.

The best way I can describe the Appleton Estate 21 is that it smells like walking into an old wine cellar or an antique bookstore. If for nothing else, I think this bottle is worth picking up solely to experience what a truly old rum can be. For the age and the quality, this represents exceptional value. I strongly disagree with the other reviewer who criticises the price—what’s being offered here is more than fair. Frankly, I would expect a rum this good and this old to cost considerably more.

Would be in my top 5 fav rums but the lower stars is because it's just to damn expensive to ever buy more than once. It is good! but there is better out there for under half the price.
