Yamazaki 12YO 700ml

I tried this at a bar and was genuinely impressed. It’s an excellent whisky: balanced, clean, and quite enjoyable. Curious about buying a bottle, I checked the retail price and was very disappointed.

At its current price, the Yamazaki 12 sits among well-aged, highly regarded single malts that offer far greater depth, complexity, and flavour. In that context, the Yamazaki 12 feels flat and simple by comparison.

I don’t rate whiskies in isolation. If I did, many expensive bottles would be five stars, and most cheaper ones one star. I rate them relative to others in the same price range, as I believe that to be fairer and more informative.

On that basis, this earns one star. It is a very, very good whisky for a $100 whisky; at the $449 it currently sits at, it is simply outclassed by almost any serious alternative.

Smooth, balanced, and just a joy to sip. A real classic that lives up to the hype. Always happy to have this in the collection.

Good whiskey but those bottles used to be pretty cheap, I will rather have 3 x Macallan with the price now.

Absolutely agree with Dean. This price is ridiculous. This is one of the whiskies we really enjoyed, but not affordable anymore
