The Arran Single Malt selected for this cask strength expression was initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for 7 years before being transferred for secondary maturation into smaller Quarter casks also made of the finest American oak for a further 2 years. The process of transferring our whisky into the smaller 125 litre sized casks for their final 2 years of maturation produces far greater contact between the whisky & oak and a faster, more intense maturation.

The end result is a full-bodied expression of Arran Single Malt combining power and finesse full of rich vanilla sweetness and bold peppery spice. Bottling at natural Cask Strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring of any sort presents this whisky in its purest form. Small casks would have been a common feature of the Arran whisky trade in the eighteenth & nineteenth centuries as they were easier to handle and transport around the island. With our much-loved Quarter Cask expression we proudly bring this tradition back to life.

This one gets me

I love whisky and I have tried many single malts.
I was so impressed with Arran cherry cask so I thought this Bothy Quarter Cask was going to be equally good and I was quite close. Having a cask strength unfiltered and uncolored is by definition something special.
I wouldn't say is a smooth drum, I would put it as a very exciting , vivid , dynamic.
The nose is a bit richer that the cherry cask, very involving fruity apples, pears, sultanas and wood.
To the palate is a bit sharp, salty caramel, dark chocolate, bit of pineapple, orange peel .
The after taste a bit minty, long.
This one to me feels very strong. The cherry cask you can drink it without noticing that is 56% but this one you feel it and your body tells you.
I would definitely go back to cherry cask and keep this Quarter Cask as a good memory. Feels too strong to me.

The Bothy

Smooth, elegant, Speyside style, delicate sweetness - a good wee dram! Just built a bothy by the lake, a perfect accompaniment!

Excellent whisky

This whisky is a true contender for "best whisky". It has a mouthfeel that is smooth and satisfying and a flavour that is absolute luxury. Every whisky lover should have this in the cupboard.

Pure joy

I'm relatively young in my whiskey journey, but with about 40 whiskies under my belt, I can honestly say this is at least top 5. To be fair, I haven't had a lot of cask strength whiskies, but this is just so drinkable (considering the ABV), fruity, sour, and sweet that to me it has everything it should for a non-peated bourbon barrel-aged dram. I simply can't imagine a much better whiskey in this style, especially at a sub-$100 price tag. Cheers!
