Talisker is the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky made on the Isle of Skye beside the shore of Loch Harport in the jagged shadow of the peaks of The Cuillin. Founded in 1830 by Hugh MacAskill, Talisker distillery remains faithful to traditional values. A hundred and eighty years of knowledge has been passed down through generations of distillers. Beneath the deep and stormy peat smoke character of Talisker lies a rich dried fruit sweetness, followed by a satisfying peppery finish. Superb with smoked salmon and brown bread.

Talisker 10 yrs

It's an above average whiskey which is my "Go To" beverage.

The real Fishermens friend

OK so I'm completely biased toward this wee dram. But for good reason. I cut my teeth on some pretty bold Islay malts in my tender years in the 1980's. Laphroig, Lagavulin even the elusive Port Ellen have passed by lips but as one ages one also (hopefully) becomes wiser. What stands out to me with Talisker, apart from their impeccable distillation, is the purity & intensity of the malt. In fact a recent horizontal tasting between this, the Port Ruighe (another story entirely) and some of the local competition made this feature really stand out. The style bridges the gap between the iodine soaked, creosote monsters like Ardbeg, the Corryvrekan is a classic case in point here and the sweeter malted Campbelltown whiskies, Springbank 10 I'm looking at you! So what you end up with is something a little peaty, a little honeyed, a little roasted cashews, a wee bit of baked apples and a whole lot of salty, lip smacking flavour. This malt is a standard on our fishing trips to the sounds, both Marlborough & Fiordland and easily fits the bill as the genuine Fishermans friend.

Another favorite

A top notch single malt.
I typically prefer Islay whisky....however, always enjoy Talisker, as a terrific alternative. Talisker Storm is also a favorite.
