I previously worked for a importer/distributor of wines and spirits. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to a world of taste which had been crafted over time by tradition and culture from around the world. Therefore I have favorites and I found myself being conscious of when I was in various parts of greater Auckland so I could stop in at a particular retailer that stocked a certain item. Unfortunately this became, more and more disappointing as these items were no longer ranged. These stores had more and more become "muck for the masses" with free flip flops. Although the staff had generally been polite they would frequently try to recommend an alternative product that was like comparing olive oil to engine oil because the bottle said "oil". The usual punchline of "oh its good" would always follow. So I would always ask "do you drink?" and 95% of the time the answer was "no" *head bobble*. Unfortunately the large majority of the big franchise liquor outlets are not passionate about the product and they are simply operators. There is nothing wrong with this, the attendant at the gas station probably couldn't care less about what comes out of the pump however I doubt that they would say "91 is cheaper if they didn't have 98". So based on my experiences, here I am. Accepted with a little bit of a rant, however I have first hand witnessed the change of off-licence retailer and with piece of mind I wave them goodbye. This WaM website is exceptional, it's not clunky to use, packed with goodness from people who clearly are passionate about the product and how they operate. There's probably a lot that the big banks or telco provides could learn from here on what a customer experience should be. The WaM slogan (awesome) could be the best place for them to start with a slight tweak....
"......... by craftsman, produced by idiots". This shopping experience was also free from any pop-ups that asked me "got any spare change cuz" or on completion of my order before closing the browser a final pop up that called me an "areshole" to conclude my shopping experience.
