The blend is 70% Pinot Noir (all Grand Crus), of which 12% is still red wine from the vineyards of Bouzy, with the remaining 30% Chardonnay from Grand Cru Cote des Blanc vineyards. This method of blending the red wine (called the Saignee) into the base wine gives more intense red fruit flavours. Certainly this is shown with Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rose.
Smells: Intense bouquet of dark cherries, red berries with hints of liquorice.
Tastes: Amazing freshness on the palate. Cherries, red berries and blood orange zest are backed up by spicy anise notes. Texture is sublime with vivacious acidity. Still a baby, but showing great potential.
